Professional Development Session

Reading is as fundamental as getting enough to eat or having a place to sleep, and it takes precedence over every other subject in school and in life. Nothing else can compare with its usefulness in a child’s development.

We are committed to supporting parents and early childhood professionals by providing quality care and education professional learning in building relationships that are responsive in rich learning environments.

Since each child, school, and community organization is unique, we offer completely customizable professional learning programs focusing on language and literacy. We know that:

  1. All children can and will develop proficient literacy skills when provided with highly effective teachers and an evidence-based instruction.
  2. High levels of literacy are directly tied to economic success.

High levels of literacy - reading, writing, speaking, and listening - are directly tied to success in school and career and to a healthy economy.

Students who are proficient in literacy instruction graduate from high school and attend college in significantly greater numbers than those not receiving such attention. Thus, proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, and listening will allow all citizens, especially our most vulnerable citizens, to experience an opportunity to live healthy and productive lives.

Our literacy specialists assist schools and districts by conducting literacy needs assessments, facilitating customized, interactive professional learning sessions (both small and large), observations with positive corrective feedback, mentoring and coaching, and modeling of lessons.

The Center for Literacy and Learning is able to customize a program to fit the unique needs of your school, education professional or parents, so please feel free to contact us if you feel this type of program can be beneficial to you.
