What is your role with The Center and what are you most excited about?
I am a Regional Literacy Specialist at The Center for Literacy and Learning. I am most excited to be able to help the coaches across my region to help their teachers. In this capacity, I feel like I am able to reach so many classrooms across the state, and that brings me so much joy.
What is your background?
I graduated from LSU in 2008 with my B.S. Degree in Elementary Education. I started teaching shortly after while working on my master’s degree online. I finished my master’s in 2013 from Northwestern State University in Educational Technology Leadership.
I have a total of 13 years of teaching. While most of my years were spent in 1st grade, and have taught on the Per K/K level as well
During my last several years of teaching, I also worked within my district to plan and provide professional development to my colleagues, and I spent two years working with the math department to realign our Math curriculum.
What is your favorite childhood book or literacy memory?
I can remember being in 1st grade like it was yesterday. My first-grade teacher was my absolute favorite. I remember a day early on in the school year when she was going over letter sounds. We all had our heads down on our desks, and she was walking up and down the rows saying different sounds. I am not sure why this particular memory is a favorite, but it has stuck with me for this long!
Flashback to when you were 10 years old, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I wanted to be a teacher! My mom use to take me to the teacher supply store and I would pick out different things for my “classroom”. I would set up my stuffed animals to be students and teach away.
If you could be anywhere in the world right now, where would you be?

What passion projects do you have outside of work?
Parenting- I absolutely love being a mom. I will sit and talk with anyone for hours on end about any topic related to pregnancy, childbirth, and being a mommy. Cooking as well- my husband loves to cook, and he is very good at it. Cooking as a family is something that we all really enjoy in our house.
