Literacy and Economic Development

Literacy and Economic Development

Literacy and Economic Development:

A Critical Intersection on Louisiana’s Roadmap To Prosperity

Louisiana continually ranks in the bottom three in literacy among all states according to the National Assessment of Educational Progress.

Only 1 in 4 students in Louisiana will enter fourth grade as a proficient reader.

Literacy is an economic issue.

Louisiana taxpayers spend more than $270 million a year to help students not reading on grade level. Louisiana is also losing millions more, if not billions, in economic opportunity every year because of workforce challenges.

The time is NOW to reverse generations of poor outcomes. The Center is leading innovative programs that will alter the course of our state and move us toward a more prosperous Louisiana. We need you to be a part of this reading revival!

We are coming to your area to hear from you on how we can improve literacy across all communities.
Regional Roundtables will include business and industry leaders; educational advocates and leaders; elected officials, and other stakeholders and leaders from throughout your region.

Our Goal

The Center will publish a comprehensive report and action plan for Louisiana in early 2022.

Make sure your voice is heard.
