Kathryn Jackson
What is your role with The Center and what are you most excited about?
I am a Literacy Engagement Specialist. I am excited to partner with schools and community organizations to empower families to develop their child’s literacy skills at home.
What is your background?
After graduating from Tulane University in 2016 with a B.A. in English, I became certified to teach through teachNOLA and taught at an elementary school in New Orleans East for 5 years. I completed Mentor Teacher certification while in the classroom, and then became an Instructional Coach where I supported grades PK-5. I also have experience as a Literacy Tutoring Program Coordinator, and I worked as a Professional Learning Specialist for Amplify. I received my Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from LSUS in 2022.
What is your favorite childhood book or literacy memory?
I was a huge bookworm as a kid! One of my favorite literacy memories is going to Barnes & Noble at midnight with my mom to buy the newest Harry Potter book. I would stay up all night reading!
Flashback to when you were ten years old; what did you want to be when you grew up?
I wanted to be a fashion designer! I love that education allows me to continue to be creative.
If you could be anywhere in the world right now, where would you be?
I would be exploring a new city or country! I love to travel.
What passion projects do you have outside of work?
I enjoy costuming and am always crafting! I also love to spend time outdoors with my husband and dog.
