Making a Comeback! Teacher Leader Summit 2022
By: Danielle Fontenot, Literacy Coach Program Director
At the end of May, several of The Center’s staff headed to the New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center to participate in the 2022 Teacher Leader Summit. The Summit hosted by the Louisiana Department of Education brought together Louisiana educators and content leaders to join the opportunity for several hours of professional development. The focus of sessions included Early Childhood, ELA, Literacy, and Instructional Best Practices, to name a few.
Several of The Center’s knowledgeable staff facilitated sessions with topics centered around oral language development, the impact of the literacy coach program, best instructional practices for social studies content, and knowing the right times to expose students to sight words. Along with these presentations, The Center was represented as an exhibitor during the three-day event. Our booth attracted many visitors seeking information on how The Center can support their valuable work to ensure students are reading proficiently.
On Tuesday evening, The Center hosted educators for a special evening out for Louisiana educators and staff. The Center recognized Dr. Cade Brumley at this event with the “MVP for Literacy” award. We were pleased to have many educators from around Louisiana in attendance to witness this event. We are fortunate to have a leader who mirrors The Center’s sense of urgency for policy change regarding educating our students and reforming our state’s literacy plan.
