Kenilworth Professional Development Deep Dive into Literacy

The Center’s Kelly Morris enjoyed working with the dedicated educators of Kenilworth Science and Technology Charter School on Friday, March 17th.

Teachers, interventionists, literacy coaches, and administrators came together to dive deeply into all things literacy. These middle school teachers had the opportunity to learn about and apply the research from the Science of Reading.

This professional development had a hands-on approach, focusing on strategies to utilize in all content areas, focusing on literacy in middle school classrooms. Together, they reviewed foundational knowledge and skills to deliver explicit and systematic instruction. The team reviewed and practiced incorporating advanced phonics techniques, fluency support, and vocabulary routines across the content areas. The collaboration was exceptional, and these fantastic educators have the needed tools to support their students with foundational skills and strategies to grow middle school students.
