Celebrate Thanksgiving with The Center
Reflections of Gratitude by The Center’s Staff Members
By Megan Willis, Director of Communications
As we celebrate Thanksgiving, it is evident that The Center for Literacy & Learning has much to be thankful for – a dedicated team, supportive educators and schools, and many communities that have embraced the importance of literacy. The ongoing commitment to providing opportunities for learning, growth, and the joy of reading reflects a spirit of generosity that extends beyond the holiday season. The Center’s work is not only about teaching people to read but empowering them with the tools to navigate the complexities of life through literacy. To celebrate this year, we asked a few members of our staff what they were thankful for this year.
“This year I am especially thankful to have the opportunity to give back to the community through my work at The Center. The ability to read has so many far reaching implications in modern society from increased earning potential, better health outcomes, increased civic participation, and most importantly, the ability and freedom to take initiative and learn about whatever one might be interested in.
Whether someone decides to read a textbook to improve their ability to perform a task or gets cozy with an engaging work of fiction for entertainment, it is very rewarding to know that our work here is providing that opportunity for individuals and I am truly thankful for every person who sees a positive impact from our collective efforts at The Center for Literacy & Learning” –Michael Duarte, Director of Special Projects
“Thanksgiving is a time of gratitude. As I reflect on all that I am grateful for this past year, my literacy coaches, school administrators, and district supervisors are at the top of my list. These outstanding educators have helped transform the literacy coach program to what it is today because of the teamwork they display.
I truly feel like I am part of their team which has had a lasting impact on me. I am truly inspired by their passion to create change and their constant dedication to ensure the success of our students and teachers. I am honored to have the privilege of serving them and beyond thankful for each of them. Happy Thanksgiving!” – Kelly Morris, Literacy & Learning Specialist, K-12
“As a member of The Center for Literacy & Learning’s staff for over 15 years, I am most grateful to be a part of such a focused and driven team who are passionate about carrying out The Center’s mission and vision throughout all we do. They are inspiring and appreciated.” – Denise Howell, Director of Program Design & Implementation
As a Literacy Engagement Specialist, I am thankful for the opportunity to empower families with literacy resources and activities that can be used at home to foster a lifelong love for reading. – Miranda Gremillion, Literacy Engagement Specialist
The reflections of gratitude from our team members serve as a great reminder that the ability to read is a transformative gift that opens doors to a world of possibilities. This impact is not just measured in words but in the lives it touches and the communities it helps thrive. As we continue our journey, the collective gratitude and dedication of our team set the stage for a future where literacy remains a cornerstone for personal and societal growth in Louisiana. We wish everyone the best this holiday season and are excited to continue to watch our state grow.
